Ep #79: Managing Business with Motherhood: Balancing Children and Career with Sydney Fairman

On the 79th episode of The Richard Robbins Show, I sit down with an agent who, at the age of 23, started her real estate journey. Just 13 years later, she is a Certified Luxury Home Marketing Specialist enlisted in RE/MAX’s Top 100 in Canada, a Million Dollar Guild Award holder, a Diamond Award holder and has been inducted into the RE/MAX Hall of Fame & Lifetime Achievement circle.

Sydney Fairman, an RRI Coaching Member working out of the Northumberland County area, is a high-spirited, honest and clever real estate professional. Despite all of her career success, she would tell you that her biggest accomplishment has been running her business while also being a full-time mother.

“I worked my business around breastfeeding, around nap time, it’s a real thing for a woman. I booked my appointments around my schedule.”

Sydney was able to continue doing over 100 deals a year by focusing on time stacking, creating systems and being flexible. She tells me that mastering her schedule was crucial to continuing her success as an agent and a mother. “When I had my daughter, all I wanted was to go back to work. I wanted to feel like myself. The beauty of having a newborn is that they sleep a lot. I took her with me everywhere. I brought her home on a Friday and Monday I went and got listing papers signed.”

Today, Sydney generally works 4 days a week, from Monday to Thursday, and takes the entire month of August off. She attributes this freedom to how she has run her business since the start. “Marketing is actually maintaining and creating relationships. I’ve worked really hard to make sure my brand doesn’t have my face on it. It’s not based on me, it’s based on an experience we provide to people.”

In this episode, Sydney and I talk about the explicit actions taken to achieve such a high level of business success. Sydney talks about the importance of score-carding, tracking weekly goals, when it’s the right time to grow your team and how proper time management is the secret to more time off.
