I just finished reading the extraordinary book, Surviving Your Serengeti: 7 Skills to Master Business and Life by Stefan Swanepoel.
The book is a fable set in the Serengeti, where nearly two million wildebeest, zebras and gazelles run a 1000-mile migratory journey each year, one filled with hunger, thirst, predators, and exhaustion.
As Stefan says in the introduction:
??this journey is a parable for success. It?s a window into the very meaning of life that provides a simple way to understand, appreciate, and remember the basic skills that all living beings needs to survive and thrive.?
In the book, Stefan shares the survival skills of seven of the Serengeti?s many creatures. Through their journey, he shows us that to survive and thrive you must rely on your own natural talents and unique skills, and that during tough times no journey is ever too long, and nothing is impossible.
Surviving Your Serengeti is a book of hope in dark times, and one with great insights for business owners, but there are a number of other reasons that caused me to pick it up.
First, I have a soft spot in my heart for Africa. I have traveled there a number of times, built many friendships, and enjoyed two of the great adventures in my life: a 3-day safari at Phinda, and flying a fighter jet at Thunder City. There is something very special about Africa. All who journey there seem to agree that visiting Africa is a spiritual experience?each time I have felt a sense of peacefulness that I have never known anywhere else.
Second, the author Stefan Swanepoel is a friend that I first met a number of years ago when we were both on the same speaking tour of Australia and New Zealand. I have become a fan of his work and commitment to the real estate industry.
Third, a percentage of the sale of each book is going to the African Wildlife Foundation, and anything I can do to help this cause I will do.
